Ultimately I think the good ( freedom from discrimination and hostile environments for large classes of traditionally marginalized people ) justifies the bad. Normally I don't think people should have to trade one freedom for another. But the workplace is itself an environment where people voluntarily trade their time and energies for money. I'm fine with a situation where a few have to trade freedom ( to discriminate as a personal choice, to say what they want) so that more people can gain freedom. It's undeniably harsh but I think it's a fair part of the contract. Universities should be a more open environment than workplaces but this particular program wasn't a classroom where people should freely discuss ideas. It was a type of work. It was a training program where she interacted with actual clients ( who she could possibly harm) and completing the program would mean they were signing off on her future profession.
